Complete renovation of a bathroom, entirely rethought to make the most of the view over Lake Annecy and the mountains.

The original room was cold: textured slate-grey, large-format tiles and right angles everywhere. It worked, but it turned its back on what it had that was most valuable, an opening onto the lake and the peaks that the original layout simply ignored.

Everything was rearranged around that view. The shower, the vanity and the dressing table were each positioned so the view is visible from anywhere in the room. That was the real subject of the project, ahead of any material choice.

The walls are clad in slim tiles laid vertically, in two matt greens: a pale sage on the main volumes, a deep green inside the shower. Very fine white joints draw a graphic grid that follows the curves, including through the built-in niches and around every corner. Straight lines were rounded off: a radiused shower canopy, a curved vanity top and a bent oak unit.

The shower was treated as a cocoon: an enclosed volume, a white canopy that catches the light, a brushed brass column and a niche built in at hand height. The vanity top is a speckled cream solid surface with an undermounted basin and a wall-mounted brass mixer, below a round backlit mirror.

The joinery was drawn for the room: the vanity unit, and an oak dressing table facing the window with its arched mirror. The WC is wall-hung, a Japanese model with wall-mounted controls.

This is not only a change of materials, it is a change of atmosphere: the room has gone from technical grey to something warm, and above all it finally looks outside.
